Our Story
Founded in 2008, The Home Studio began as a dedicated To The Trade resource serving the greater Grand Rapids design community. In September 2024, after more than 20 years in the build and design industries, husband-and-wife team Denise and Rick Smith saw an opportunity to step into its story. Guided by a shared love of homebuilding and creating meaningful environments—and shaped by years of weathering life’s storms with faith and family at the center—they acquired The Home Studio with a vision to steward it thoughtfully into its next era.
With the support of their three sons, close family members, and an assemblage of passionate, fun-loving teammates who feel more like extended family than staff, Denise and Rick have infused the business with genuine warmth and renewed energy. Together, they are writing the next chapter and rebranded as The Home Studio Collective—one rooted in connection, collaboration, and a deep respect for the creative process.
Just as Denise champions the people in her life, The Home Studio Collective exists to champion you. We believe in your unique talents and vision, and we’re here to empower you to “Go.” As a true collaborative, our role is to ensure you feel heard, supported, and fully equipped—so you’re free to focus on what you do best: simply design.
